Hi Men:
I pray this week was one of giving thanks to God Almighty. I hope you reflect daily on 1 Thess 5:18, for this is God’s will for those who belong to Christ Jesus. Of course everyone had their eyes on the election this Tuesday, but we must always remember to never presume upon God. This verse came to mind:
Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.
Psalm 20:7
As I sit in the lobby of a Hampton Inn in Wheeling, West Virginia (Jane and I will be attending a wedding this weekend), I reviewed some of my notes and came across these (2) familiar verses that my buddy in Tucson shared with me:
“Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: and he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:”
Daniel 2:20-21 KJV
“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.”
Romans 13:1 KJV
I think you have enough to chew on. So let’s keep our eyes looking up. Don’t forget, “this life” is a morning mist.
IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD AND DOWN THE STREET
Meet Chuck. Actually he’s not in my backyard or down my street, he is my son’s next door neighbor in North Carolina. My son Mark has been talking to him for some time and he loves to sit in his garage and sip on Crown Royal & 7. What he likes most is watching my grandkids play next door, enjoying the non-stop activities just 50 feet or so from where he sits.
After the Atlanta Men’s Conference in Calloway Gardens last month, I stayed with Mark and family for a few extra days. One afternoon, I saw him in the garage and took a breather from running hard with my grandkids and hopped over the fence and visited with him (note: Mark and I have visited with him in the past and Mark talks to him often). His wife Eva came out and his daughter Jori drove up. I can tell, Mark and his wife have really impacted this family with their Christian love.
Chuck is a Vietnam Veteran and a Marine. He also has a couple muscle cars that he has built up and loves to talk about them.
Because of Mark and his wife, Chuck, Eva and Jori were very open to discuss many spiritual things, including Israel and Islam. I shared my testimony with them and they seemed glued to the conversation. I left them each with the little card, “Jesus Paid the Price.” Keep Chuck and his family in your prayers. It will be so interesting to see what God does in the days ahead……. especially living next to Mark and family.

By the way, the construction crew has begun the sewer project on my street in Vegas. I have already met Fernando and Rodi (born in Sonora and his wife is from Guadalajara). I’m trusting the Lord He will allow me to have some great conversations over this next month.

Fifth Warning from Hebrews:
See To It…That You Do Not Turn Away
by Jonathan Koehler | Nov 5, 2024
Men,
Another one to spend some time on. How would you answer this question? Be honest…
When encountering trials, do you offer the sacrifice of praise rather than entertain a root of bitterness?
What is involved in doing the former rather than the latter?

Men:
My wife and I are watching these documentary series (currently in Season 1 – Episode 7). Frankly, we were both surprised at the quality of each of these 27 minute series. Watch the trailer on YouTube (3 minutes)

In each episode, you will quickly see that without a Biblical Worldview, any culture will start to deteriorate. How clearly we see even in our own country.
WHOA!! Do you belong to a church that preaches a complimentary Gospel?
It Is Not a Complimentary Gospel
I think we have all felt the temptation to modify the gospel, to preach a gospel that is inaccurate or incomplete. I think we have all felt the desire to avoid the reproach that may come upon us when we preach the whole gospel and true gospel—the gospel that is so very bad before it is so very good.
The fact is, the true gospel is not complimentary. It is not admiring or flattering. Rather, it describes humanity in all our sinfulness and depravity, all our hopelessness and lostness.
Not so long ago I came across some words from the old preacher De Witt Talmage that describe this well. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

By Thomas De Witt Talmage (1832-1902)
You see this is not a complimentary gospel. That is what makes some people so incensed. It comes to a man of a million dollars, and impenitent in his sins, and says, “You are a pauper.”
It comes to a woman of fairest cheek, who has never repented, and says, “You are a leper.”
It comes to a man priding himself on his independence, and says, “You are bound hand and foot by the devil.”
It comes to our entire race and says, “You are a ruin, a ghastly ruin, and a limitless ruin, and, unless the grace of God rebuild you, an everlasting ruin.”
Satan sometimes says to me; “Why do you not preach that truth? Why don’t you preach a gospel with no repentance in it? Why don’t you flatter men’s hearts so that you make them feel all right? Why don’t you preach a humanitarian Gospel, with no repentance in it, saying nothing about the ruin, talking all the time about the redemption? Instead of preaching to five thousand, you might preach to twenty thousand; for there would be four times as many who would come to hear a popular truth as to hear an unpopular truth, and you have voice enough to make them hear.”
I say: “Get behind me, Satan.” I would rather lead five thousand souls into heaven than twenty thousand into hell. The redemption of the Gospel is a perfect farce if there is no ruin. “The healthy need not a physician, but they that are sick.” And “If any one, though he be an angel from heaven, preach any other Gospel than this,” says the apostle, “let him be accursed.”
