Mystère – Cirque du Soleil

“Do not love the world or the things in the world.
If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”
1 John 2:15

Hi Men:

I pray you had some extended quiet time “in” the Word this week.  When you are reading the Word, don’t forget: “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.”  (John 1:14)  The Word is alive…… Thank you Jesus!

So what’s up with the photo above.  One of my wife’s friends who has worked for Mystère at the Treasurer Island Hotel and Casino for many years had (2) extra tickets for this special performance of Mystère.  Last Saturday evening was the 13,000th performance of this show.  Look for the white arrow….. that is where Jane & I are sitting.  Mystère has been mainlining at the Treasurer Island ever since it opened….. 29 years ago.  It was about a year or 2 after it opened that Jane and I saw the show for the 1st time.  Last Saturday was the 2nd time we saw it.

But something changed………

It had been years since we had ventured out to the Las Vegas Strip.  As we observed these amazing performers and their unbelievable athletic abilities, it is hard for me to explain, but with all their God-given talent, unless these athletes know Jesus, what good will it ultimately serve?  I guess you could say that about a lot of things, but that evening really hit me.  Looking around the Mystère  showroom (seating capacity = 1500+ seats), the same thought….. how many of these people at just this this one performance will spend eternity in Hell?   As depressing as that thought was, it wasn’t nearly as depressing as Jane & I walked around the hotel after the show ended.  It was very crowded, but we both had the same gloomy feeling looking at all these people.  It seemed like they were trying to fill that void in their soul with all the worldly stuff a hotel/casino can offer.  Not sure if I’m making any sense, but the most well-known verse in the Bible came to mind:

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

Did any of these people understand the significance of that verse or know what their true purpose is?  Do they know who they are; why they are here or what they are supposed to do?  Do they know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?  If they desire to be friends with the world, they make themselves enemies of God  (James 4:4).  The whole evening was a reset on where we’re placing our chips……… is it the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes and the pride in possessions (1 John 2:16-17) ……. Or ……. In Person of Jesus Christ?

Lord, help me to DO your will &
work out my salvation with fear & trembling!
Dan

Godliness

Men:  A note from Gayle Jackson and his men:

“This month’s blog is on the subject of godliness.  The author is our brother Jim Gustafson from the Great lakes area.  We have known Jim for 40+ years and watched him grow into a man and minister of God. Great family, great ministry, and good friend. We asked him to do this one for our benefit. Read it, take notes, and grade yourself. We are called to godliness. Let us be about who we are.”

In His name,

A couple bullet points:

  • Growing in godliness is the pursuit of knowing God through His Son, learning truth and applying/obeying what is learned.
  • To pursue an understanding of God, we must produce a healthy fear of Him. And to fear Him will result in the display of our accurately handling biblical truth and doing good works
  • Culture values men-pleasers, this is a mistake.
  • Saltiness in speech and contending for the faith have been replaced by niceness and politeness

“The Fear of God is the solution to our anxiety today!”

Men:
Bookmark this and make sure you find time to listen to it.  Michael Reeves also stated, “We have lost the fear of God in our culture…….and when the fear of God is increasingly removed from our culture that is when we are flooded with more anxiety.”

Ask your pastor to pray about teaching on this subject!

“The what is the greatest threat to the church in our generation?”
“Its Pastors!”Paul Washer

Men:
You will want to listen to this 3 minute answer by Paul Washer.  When you see a weak church you will see weak men running it……..
Pastors are the greatest threat because they:

  • Lack Biblical Knowledge
  • Lack Fear of the Lord
