“Train up a child in the way he should go,
and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Proverbs 22:6
Hi Men:
Well, how much news have you been watching this past week, compared to the amount of time you have dedicated to the Living Word of God? How about your reflection time on the Christ that lives “in” you and your love for Him and your neighbor?
PHOTO ABOVE
Let me start with this quote by Coach Andy Fetsis regarding these young men:
“85% of the players do not live with their biological parents and I have yet to meet a player that has a relationship with his father.”
Since Proverbs 22:6 has to do with fathers training up their children, how does that square with these young men. I touched on Andy’s ministry in my Friday letter back in June. As we surrender our life to Christ, He will direct our steps. Most of us are familiar with Proverbs 16:9 “The mind of man plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.” In Jesus parting words in Matthew 28:19, he commanded, “make disciples.” Not only for Andy, but for each of us. As Dawson Trotman would say, “Whose Your Man?”
Many of you didn’t get to read Andy’s June Update. It will give you a clear picture of the players at Catalina High School. If interested, Here Is The Link.
Tonight is Catalina High School’s season opener…….
THE FOLLOWING IS FROM COACH ANDY FETSIS
PLEASE PRAY REGARDING THESE CONCERNS
* The opportunities to minister to young men has exploded. The spiritual needs coupled with more than a dozen boys seeking deeper discipleship. I love this part of the ministry.
* To get to the athletes and develop real relationships built on trust and agape love, means I have to head the program and set the tone and build the culture here. In that, I am overwhelmed, exhausted, doubting, fearful, I’m feeling pressure from all the media and there are expectations of immediate success.
* I want these boys to experience success for the hard work they have put in. I want this destitute school and community to also see success. I want to shine the light of Christ on this program and community.
* I want to please God and honor Him and that He be glorified.
* I want these kids to believe in the Lord and in themselves of what they are capable of.
* I need to keep my eye on the Prize knowing we will have a difficult season.
There are so many emotions in all of this. I just pray that I would glorify God and as Walt would say “that I not be a disappointment to Him”. In the midst of all the other Head Coach duties, I want to stay laser focused on the mission of the Gospel and fulfilling E2.
“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

“TO NOT BE IN UNITY WITH YOUR FELLOW BELIEVERS IS TO
DO VIOLENCE TO HIS PERSON AND THUS PROVOKE HIS ANGER”
Men:
This is such an important devotional, I thought it needed to be included this week instead of one from the Red Book [Note: Order a Blue Book Here]
A couple thoughts:
* As you read this, think of your local church. Do they interact with other churches of different denominations? If not, why not?
* Years ago I left a mega-church. I really liked the men and still joined them at the monthly men’s breakfast. The men’s ministry pastor approached me one Saturday and asked, “Why are you here?” My answer, “I thought I was still part of the Body of Christ.” He turned, and walked off.
* Some of my most precious moments have been visiting with men of various bodies of Christ.

Weapons of Warfare Part 2

Men:
Don’t miss reading Part 2. Super encouraging!
“Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 2:3)
“Every evidence from the bible suggests that our spiritual weapons and our spiritual battles are more important than physical ones, even if this is not immediately obvious from our worldly perspective.”
“We prepare by learning how to fight now, which means we purpose every day to put on the full armor of God and destroy fortresses and speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God.”

Men:
One of our Bible teachers wrote the following:
When it came out, I went to see Mel Gibson’s The Passion with my family. I was moved to tears at the graphic presentation of the physical torture of Jesus at the hands of the Romans. Not long after a brother remarked that Jesus’ crucifixion, while certainly horrible and agonizing, probably was not at the pinnacle of the cruelty humans have devised. So what makes it so memorable? It was some time later when I was confronted with the reality that not only “He who knew no sin became sin for us”, but Jesus’ cry of abandonment by the Father indicated an unexplainable and incomprehensible death of a relationship that had existed from eternity past.
Today while running, I was listening to the remainder of a message by Paul Washer that I started yesterday. It is a “good” message but Washer introduced a question at about the 43:45 mark: “How can martyrs through the centuries go to what is often an agonizing death while singing hymns of praise when the Savior was in such emotional stress and agony in the Garden that He sweat drops of blood in anticipation of what lay before Him in a few hours?” If you listen to/watch this, you’ll find what again moved me to tears on my run.

One of the brothers that watched this message by Washer, asked these two questions:
- What is a man?
- What was in the cup?
After you watch the video, can you answer them?
CICADA’S REVISITED
When the Fetsis Family visited last month, after dinner and as they were walking to there vehicle, their son Rowan, age 14, noticed another round of our cicada’s that were emerging from the ground and climbing up the trees. Rowan grabbed this shot with his mom’s iPhone of a cicada shedding his exoskeleton. They amazed all of us that night.
Below is an image from Dr. Ken Boa of a butterfly and a cicada.
