Friday Men’s Group 8/2/24

EAGLE SCOUT LUNCHEON – 7/31/24

Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!
Psalm 133:1

Hi Men:
Well…. tell me, how was your week? One of the brothers sent this quote:

“It’s crazy, if you think about it. The God of the universe – the creator of nitrogen and pine needles, galaxies and E-minor – loves us with a radical, unconditional, self-sacrificing love. And what is our typical response? We go to church, sing songs, and try not to cuss.” Francis Chan

I only include that quote to ask you how much time have you been spending watching the Olympics vs. contemplating the Jesus that is “in” you and loves you. We now belong to Him! Have I watched some of the Olympics, of course. I was fascinated with a couple of sports I had never seen, like air pistol competition and may watch some of the speed climbing. I have to watch them on those short YouTube replays, because I know how susceptible I am to TV…… 2 hours later and I’m asking myself what I just did… ugh! Jane and I have been watching some pretty amazing Christian documentaries. Really good!

PHOTO ABOVE & IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD

For some time, I have have been wanting to circle back with the boys that were in my Boy Scout Troop. Here is a short blog on the Troop that I put in the Friday letter over 3 years back: You might get a kick out of the photo: E²Vegas.org/Friday-Mens-Group-4-16-21 So I thought I would start with the boys that earned Scouting’s highest award, Eagle Scout and aim for the scouts that were in the Troop, around the time I was Scoutmaster. We started with the years from 2000-2010. One of the scouts, Adam (far left in the photo – 6’6″), who is in the USAF, was being transferred from Germany to Tucson (Davis-Monthan AFB), but he would have about a week in Las Vegas. So that was our window. We had 7 Eagle Scouts, along with David Sonner, one of my Asst. Scoutmasters, also an Eagle Scout as a youth. There were a number of boys that wanted to attend, but on short notice couldn’t make it. Several were out-of-state and told me they would attend the next one if given enough notice.

WE ARE PLANNING ANOTHER ONE IN THE FALL IN MY OWN BACKYARD!

We are having it in the backyard, because that’s where we had a ton of scouting activities. [Note: This November, Jane & I will have lived in this house for 40 years]
So what was the purpose of this luncheon and future gatherings? A few facts:

  • These boys are now young men in their 30’s
  • The majority are now married with children. A few are single or engaged.
  • Us ‘ol guys’ want to be a resource to these scouts
  • They learned some amazing skills (especially leadership) in those 7 years in the Troop
  • We want to have fun gatherings and involve their families
  • And ……. For those God directs us to, we want “make disciples” which will absolutely transform their lives! (Matt 28:19-20)

When the luncheon ended…… no one wanted to leave!

STOPPING AT THE GUARD GATE

On the way out, I spotted the same precious older black lady and pulled over. She came out of her guard shack and I said, “I have something for you.” I pulled out the same tracts I had just given the guys. She went crazy and showed me the pin on her shirt. “Jesus. the ONLY solution for our nation.” I gave her a big tip and she reached through my window and gave me a bear hug! She was so excited……

JESUS… Our Prophet, Priest and King,
Dan
(Gal 2:20)

“O God, You are my God;
Earnestly I seek You;
My soul thirsts for You;
My body longs for You,
In a dry and weary land
Where there is no water.”
(Psalm 63:1)

I would think that if we took this verse from Psalms at face value, we would have a much better chance to “walk the narrow, hard way.”  By the way, the definition of “EARNESTLY” is: Sincere and Intense Conviction

The Narrow Gate – Red Book Day 216

The purpose of these devotionals is to help you think Biblically.
Solomon said, “As a man thinks, so is he”

If the way to heaven is so narrow, and so few find it,
what will become of those who never seek it?

MEN ONLY – DATING

by Bob Foster

Men:
You certainly know some single guys that are dating or might like to get married in the future. Then you will want to send them this message. Bob Foster owned “Lost Valley Ranch” where the MIM Lost Valley Men’s Conference has been held for 35+ years. The first time I saw him, he was operating a road grader, plowing the snow as we were driving into the ranch. He was 92 years old as he operated that grader! He died at age 96…..

I sent this message to a disciple of mine and this is what he said:

“Loved the Bob Foster message. I appreciate the honesty, and the call to make our decisions intentionally based on the Word. I saved it on my phone for future reference.”

The message was originally titled: BOOZE, BROADS & BUTTS. The discipleship library cleaned it up a bit 🤠 …… Make sure you listen to if first

PARODY OF THE LAST SUPPER

Men:
I know, you’re probably getting sick and tired of seeing this…..me too! But….. I have attached an article you might find enlightening by Carl Truman. He’s no lightweight! Some of you may remember that he also appeared in the 2022 documentary “What is a Woman” by Matt Walsh. Read the article here:
An anti-culture of nothingness

Other than the article, why am I addressing this? Some made a very valid statement by asking: “What would have happened if they made a parody of Mohammed?” As most of you know, I’m one of those guys that stays informed with Islamic activity, i.e.; Voice of the Martyrs. If interested, here is one (of several) websites that gives you accurate information:
JIHADwatch.org/
If this group did a parody of Mohammed, all the Muslims that live in and around Paris would have burned the city down, starting with the Olympic venue. Most of us have short memories, but if you Google the number of terrorist attacks in France, you’ll be blown-away. Remember the two Muslim boys that were being chased by the police? Among other things, 2100 cars were torched after the boys jumped over a wall into a high voltage line and were electrocuted. And we all remember the Catholic priest that had his throat slit on Bastille Day during mass. The only solution to this evil, is one word: Jesus!

The Firefighters

Imagine seeing a group of firefighters polishing their engine outside a burning building with people trapped at a top floor window. Obviously, there is nothing wrong with cleaning a fire engine, but not while people are trapped in a burning building! Instead of ignoring their cries, the firefighters should have an overwhelming sense of urgency to rescue them. That’s the same spirit that should be behind the task of evangelism. But according to Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, “Only 2% of believers in America regularly share their faith with others.”  That means 98% of the professing body of Christ are “lukewarm” when it comes to obeying the Great Commission (Mark 16:15)

Oswald Smith said, “Oh my friends, we are loaded down with countless church activities, while the real work of the Church, that of evangelizing and winning the lost, is almost entirely neglected.”  We have polished the engines of worship, prayer, and praise and neglected the sober tasks given to us by God. A firefighter who ignores his responsibilities and allows people to perish in flames is not a firefighter, he is an impostor. How could we ignore our responsibility and allow the world to walk blindly into the fires of hell? If God’s love dwells in us we must warn them. The Bible tells us to “have compassion….  save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.”  (Jude 22, 23). If we don’t have love and compassion then we don’t know God; we are imposters.  (1 John 4:8).

Charles Spurgeon said, “Have you no wish for others to be saved?  Then you are not saved yourself. Be sure of that.”  Please, examine yourself to see if you’re in the faith (2 Cor 13:5) Don’t be part of the great multitude who called Jesus, “Lord,” but refused to obey him. It is professing believers who will hear those fearful words, “I never knew you, depart from Me.” (Matt 7:21- 23)

The Uniqueness of Jesus

“I know man and I tell you that Jesus Christ is no mere man. Between Him and every other person in the world there is no possible term of comparison. Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and I have founded empires. But on what did we rest the creations of our genius? Upon force. Jesus Christ founded His empire upon love, and at this hour millions of men would die for Him.”
~Napoleon Bonaparte
