Formalhaut’s Asteroid Belt – JWST May 2023

By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God,
so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible
Hebrews 11:3

Hi Men:

I seems our weeks become more interesting moment by moment.  There are an infinite number of things we can focus on, but will they accrue for us anything in eternity?  I love what Paul stated in Philippians 4:8

“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”

Does that one verse describe you and what your dwelling on in the course of a day?  If not, why not?  There is so much background noise out there, we must be intentional to have protracted quiet time.  I encourage you to read Jim Gustafson’s MIM article below:  Are You Listening?

Since I have a few other items I would like touch on, if interested, I will let you read this short article on the newly imaged asteroid belt around the brightest star in the southern hemisphere.

Just Thinking:

Men:  If you have been bought with a price, then your life doesn’t belong to you anymore.  Do you believe this?  Do other people see your life as a reflection of Christ?  If not, why not?

Obedience
“We deserve nothing for our obedience, because obedience is the minimal requirement of a citizen of God’s Kingdom.”
– R.C. Sproul

“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.”  (Romans 1:20)

IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD – Part 2

You remember the testimony of Leo from last week: E²Vegas.org/Friday-Mens-Group-5-5-23
Then listen to this………

Yesterday when Leo arrived to finish trimming the dead branches out of my Elm tree, he wanted to talk to me right away.  He told me that the painful situation at home was totally resolved at 3:40am that morning.   I can’t share the details at this time, but it was from the hand of the Lord.  Totally amazing!  He was so encouraged and desires only to trust God moving forward.  He knows there will be more trials, but said, “I only want what God knows is best for me.”

Later that morning, he brought up that Mother’s Day is this weekend and asked if flowers would be a good thing to give his wife.  Of course I said absolutely.  I grabbed the card I was going to give my wife Jane, we jumped in my car and drove to Sam’s Club.  Leo picked out the flowers with a vase, signed the card and attached it to the bouquet (see photo).  We prayed in the car and then drove to the office his wife works and Leo asked me to be the flower delivery person.  I walked in and said, “Flowers for Leo’s wife!”  The rest is history…….

Who would have thought that when I hired a landscaper 15 months ago I would be delivering flowers to his wife?

Overwhelmed by His Grace,
Dan
(Gal 2:20)

Ashamed of the testimony of our Lord.
Do we have an unwillingness to put in jeopardy our jobs and social acceptance for the sake of the Gospel?

The cost of identifying with Christ.
There is a difference between comfortable Christianity and costly Christianity. People do not wish to pay the price.

Men:
Take some time on these………… we NEVER want to be ashamed or faithless when we stand before our Creator

“Be still and know that I am God”
(Psalms 46:10)

Are You Listening?

by Jim Gustafson | May 9, 2023 |

Listening seems to be a simple enough concept.  We have ears to facilitate one of our senses — we use them regularly.  We know all about it.  Hear and respond with our mouth.  It is important in our everyday activity.  We converse with others and realize that without hearing our ability to communicate is severely diminished.  So it is with God.

But the scripture takes us to a different understanding.  James writes, “Be quick to listen, slow to speak” (James 1:19).

God said, “This is my beloved Son, listen to Him.”  (Luke 9:35).

The relationship with God is rooted in listening to Him through His Word.

Listening is a significant concept in the scriptures.  As a verb, “hearing” or “listening” appears over 1600 times in the Bible!

It means to receive or hear and understand a reported noise.  It implies a silence and stillness in order to hear.   It has a responsibility component, implying obedience to what is understood.

So, how to listen?  The Psalmist writes:  “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalms 46:10)

Listening is the quiet, still activity of intent fully slowing ourselves down, closing off the outside distractions and pressures and being still before God and His word and then applying

The culture values business, action and running.  But listening requires silence and stillness.  How?  It must be intentional.  Jesus went to a quiet place to pray and listen in the morning to get perspective.  He provides the example worth emulating

Men in the marketplace, caught up in the pace of life, in order to survive the chaos and gain the perspective only the Scriptures offer, must make time to be quiet to listen to the God of the Bible.

WHAT CAN I SAY?

John Lennox – Oxford Mathematician

Men:  A dear brother sent me this short YouTube by John Lennox.  His message was presented to about 900 students in the U.K.

What he has to say about WITNESSING is profound.

I was blown away by some of his statements.   I encourage all of you to carve out 39 minutes.  Grab your notebook and take a few notes as you listen to his message.  You won’t be disappointed.

Pass this message to a few of your friends…..

Molokai:  The Story of Father Damien – 1999

Men:  I can’t believe I never saw this movie.   I flashed on Galatians 2:20 when it came to Father Damien.  It appeared that he had truly died to self, where others in his denomination were self-focused (by the way, a sin problem everywhere).   I think it’s a movie to watch (Recommended by Christian History Institute)
