Friday Men’s Group 10/29/21

Our Own Milky Way Galaxy

Hi Men:

I pray you have had quiet time this week with our Glorious Lord!
Here’s one of the verses we would rather not have to memorize:  Indeed, all who desire to live godly “in” Christ Jesus will be persecuted. (2 Timothy 3:12).  You could spend hours reflecting on the words:  indeed – desire – godly – “in” – will be…….. right?  As you re-read that verse, what are you thinking?

PRAISE GOD FOR GODLY MENTORS

I am blessed to have men in my life that will not hesitate to correct me if I place anything in these emails that is not Scripturally accurate.  Several weeks back you might remember I included a 2 hour video titled:  Sheep Among Wolves Volume II.  I watched that video over 2 years ago and now I assume there might have been a reason I didn’t place it in my Friday Men’s Group email at that time.  Fast forward 2 years, discussing Iran with a buddy, I send him the videos and thought it would be a great idea to include them in my email.  As was pointed out to me, there are several Biblical issues with Frontier Alliance International (FAI) who put the video together. One issue mentioned is their initial approach to unbelievers based on procuring obedience to Jesus’ commands – a faulty premise.  Another issue is their repeated mention of the leadership role of women – which raises red flags.  By the way, the term for this is:  Complementarianism which you might want know more in the days ahead because it is definitely a cultural hot button.  There are (2) very disturbing issues with FAI.  If interested you can read this well researched and documented critique regarding their Discipleship Making Movements (DMM) by Radius International (click here) and……..  it has come to light that the FAI leadership appears to have some serious internal issues (click here).   FAI’s approach can neither be recommended nor supported.

What About The Milky Way?

My son John sent me a great article this week (Big Think) dealing with the fact that 94% of the universe’s galaxies are permanently beyond our reach.  It stated, “even if we traveled at the speed of light, we’d never catch up to these galaxies.”  Why?…..  Because as the universe expands they are moving away from us faster than the speed of light.

This is mind boggling when you think about it.

This 48 second video was pretty cool:  Flight Through the Hubble eXtreme Deep Field (YouTube)

What’s interesting in the article is they mention that their could be more than 2 trillion galaxies!  It wasn’t too long ago that NASA and astrophysicists were estimating there were 100 – 200 billion.  From 200 billion to 2 trillion is a HUGE increase.

What’s going to happen after they launch the James Webb telescope mid-December?  Will the number of galaxies increase?  Remember, the James Webb is 100 times more powerful than the Hubble.

If interested here is a one of the more recent videos on how all the parts must work perfectly during deployment of the James Webb:
29 Days on the Edge (YouTube 8 minutes)

Oh, and let’s not forget Who is behind it all………………

“Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!  For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who became His counselor?  Or who has first given to Him that it might be paid back to him again?  For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.”
(Romans 11:33-36)

NO SUCH THING AS TOO HARD MUSIC

Men:

My dear wife sent me this blog.  So…… if your wife, daughter, daughter-in-law, friends needs a bit of encouragement, pass this article to them.  It’s really well written.  Madelyn Canada did a great job!  She even used one of my favorite verses:  John 15:5 and one of my favorite quotes (see below).

A couple quotes from the article:

How often do we look at Him and say, “Lord, this piece is too hard” waiting for Him to change His mind and give us an easier one? It’s not “too hard” to follow Him, but it is costly. It can take longer than we’d like and require more than we want to give.

In fact, it requires our entire lives.

There is no such thing as “too hard” music. Neither is there such a thing as “too hard” obedience. Costly obedience, most definitely, sometimes unimaginably so. But in the words of Jim Elliot, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose.” I am convinced that when we stand in glory and see the Savior’s face, we will not consider any cost to have been too great.

Men:  I meant to include this sometime back.  You guys need to read this……………

(One of Ray’s comments from the article)

All around us, people are smiling and waving at each other. They aren’t thinking about eternity. They don’t see the invisible. They have no concept of the eternal. You do. You know what awaits them. Death is snatching them every minute of every day. Please don’t be intimidated into silence. Don’t dawdle while they sink into Hell. Take the initiative. Seize the moment for eternity.
“While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal”  (2 Corinthians 4:18)
