Friday Men’s Group 1/8/21

"Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together."

(John 4:35-36)

Hi Men:

Praying you stayed firmly grounded this week “in” Christ.  Yesterday when I took the photos, I couldn’t make up my mind whether to insert the sunrise or the sunset.  They were spectacular, so I included them both.  Of course the top one is facing east and the bottom one is looking west.  It reminded me of Psalm 103:12

“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

Now that verse is good news for those that have hidden their life in Jesus Christ.  Early yesterday morning I was thinking about the first verse in the “Steps to Peace with God” tract.  Here’s what is says:  “…We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:1)    And what does it say just above that?  God loves you and wants you to experience peace and a meaning, purposeful life – abundant and eternal. Men, look around………. How many people out there, especially now, are not having this experience.  Where is the “peace” in their lives?

UPDATE:  Remember my tree trimmers from the Dec 11th letter (friday-mens-group-12-11-20).  I forgot to share with you that my wife helped me prepare and some of us in the Friday group had a BBQ for them…… Again it’s amazing how well Google Translate works when you can’t speak Spanish.  We had a delightful time sharing our love of Christ and even had a Christmas gift for each of them.  We are staying in touch.

By the way, our brother Alejandro Corral and his wife just finished translating the Blue Book (Thoughts From the Diary of a Desperate Man) into Spanish.  He and his dear wife labored all last year to obtain an accurate translation.  I also want to thank Lyle Brennan who was such an encouragement during this process.  We will keep you posted.

Men, the opportunities to share the Gospel with others or come alongside a brother is “prime time” right now.  Be discerning and prayerful not to waste your ammunition on secondary targets……. Stay focused on the Great Commission.  I have included this quote by Dwight Hill many times (see: Nov 11th letter), but it bears repeating:

“The day you choose to become proactively engaged in winning the lost and discipling the saved, the war with the Enemy heats up. Go ahead, attend church, sing in the choir; attend religious programs. No problem, because you are of little if any threat to the Enemy. He’s more than happy to keep you busy with religious activities. As an evangelist and discipler, you are entering a spiritual battle with the arch enemy of your soul. So brace yourself for his vicious attacks.”

There is a lot of activity and distractions on the horizontal (temporal).  Let’s be steadfast to focus vertically on the Eternal….

Looking forward to seeing you all on the Zoom webinar on Jan 16th!

(Gal 2:20)

For this week I’m moving out of the Red Book and inserting January 11th from the Blue BookWhy?  Because in light of what’s going on right now, we need crystal clear understanding that God is 100% in control and He is good…………  Like Walt states, “Without these pillars firmly embedded in your convictions, you will find it difficult to survive the storms of life.”  Take some time to meditate on Day 11.  Pray that God would give you solid understanding of this particular devotion.

Most of you don’t know this, but when my son John and I were in India in 2007, I read this same devotional to a group of about 300 pastors at a gathering in a cow pasture (see photo below).  The devotional reading caused quite a bit of turmoil to put it mildly.  But after our return to America, I received a few letters from some of these same pastors stating that this particular teaching transformed their thinking.  These guys were still teachable and were now looking at the world through a Biblical lens.

The purpose of these devotional s to help you think Biblically

Dealing With A Bad Past
William McCurine

“Our past is dung no matter how illustrious or blighted it may be. Christ is our great need and He has promised us that we belong to Him.

To dwell on anything else is sin.”

(Quoted from the message)

Men:  You will not want to miss reading the attached message.  As most of you know, Bill is a retired Federal Magistrate Judge based in San Diego.

Laboring For The Eternal Rather Than The Temporal

Men:  Walt’s widow, Leette Henrichsen has a great message this month…..

I loved this:  “The Bible is the only book whose author is present every time you read it!”
