Venus Flytrap
Still Baffles Evolutionists

“The works of the LORD are great, studied by all who delight in them.”
Psalm 111:2

NOTE: This Friday letter will be a condensed version because our kids and grandkids have arrived and Gramps has been very busy having fun… especially at the sandpile

Hi Men:
I pray you all had a great Father’s Day. Unless our dad left or died when we were very young, most of us remember our dads. For some men you will hear that there dad was amazing and they have five star memories of him. For others, it’s difficult for men to even talk about their dad and when asked, they often change the subject. I can relate to the later, for I can’t remember my dad “ever” doing anything with just me. But as a born again believer, I can now say I had the “perfect dad” because he was the one God hand-picked for me. Not only could I graciously forgive him, but thank Almighty God for giving me the dad I had…….. Thank you Lord!

Though I’ve never seen one in person, even as a kid I was always fascinated reading about the Venus Flytrap, and later seeing videos on how they trap their prey. Let me give you a few amazing facts:

  • It grows naturally in only a tiny region of the world — mainly the coastal bogs of North and South Carolina.
  • It lives in nutrient-poor soil, so it gets needed nutrients by capturing insects.
  • The “trap” is not a mouth. It is a highly engineered leaf.
  • Each trap has tiny trigger hairs — built-in motion sensors.
  • The trap usually does not close from one touch. The insect must normally touch the hairs twice within a short window of time. In other words, this plant can “count.”
  • That two-touch system keeps it from wasting energy on raindrops, dust, or debris.
  • Once triggered, the trap can snap shut in about one-tenth of a second — faster than the blink of an eye.
  • After the insect is trapped, the plant seals the leaf, releases digestive fluid, dissolves the soft parts of the insect, absorbs the nutrients, and then reopens days later.
  • Think about what has to work together: sensors, timing, electrical signaling, rapid movement, interlocking “teeth,” digestive glands, nutrient absorption, and a reset mechanism.
  • Take away the trigger hairs, and the trap does not know when to close.
  • Take away the timing system, and it wastes energy closing on rain and dirt.
  • Take away the snap mechanism, and the insect escapes.
  • Take away the digestive system, and the captured insect does the plant no good.
  • Take away the reset system, and the trap works only once.

The Venus flytrap has no brain, no nerves, no muscles, and no eyes — yet it senses, counts, moves, traps, seals, digests, absorbs, and resets.

Men, that is not blind chance. That is not a lucky swamp accident. That is the wisdom of Almighty God on display in a leaf. All praise to you sweet Jesus!

IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD

Our dear brother, Jorge Hernandez asked if I could share with his “Life On Mission” group with Walk Church. Jorge specifically asked if I could talk on the Great Commission and share some evangelistic ideas & techniques. I was humbled when he asked me. So last Saturday, I spoke, also using a PPT. What a wonderful group of “serious” believers.
Thank You Jorge! If you haven’t seen Jorge’s testimony, you can Watch It Here

Last April, Jorge was competing in the National Wheel Chair Rugby Championship in Birmingham, Alabama. While he was there, he and his wife Astrid, got to spend some time with Rob Riley and Mike Williams, pictured above. Jorge continues to Glorify the Lord, thanking Him for that car explosion that saved his wretched soul……….

Pray that I can be guided by the Holy Spirit
to be a godly influence on my grandchildren

Much Love in Christ,
Dan

Men:
What do you think?

Remember, Jesus Christ is the Truth, “in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Colossians 2:3), and we can only arrive at Truth through Him.”

Men: From the R12.2 Conference Group:

As we head into summer, attached is a combined May-June blog that was inspired by and compiled from an oral devotion given by our brother, Lee Gowen in advance of an extended time of prayer for a group of men. We found it to be a useful tool in setting the table for our protracted time in prayer. May it be a blessing to you too.
God bless you,
Arthur, Bob, Chris, and Steve

Men: Here are (3) paragraphs from William Guthrie’s prayer. Click below to read it in it’s entirety.

A SALVATION PRAYER

Here I give my hand to you. I accept God’s offer of peace through Christ, and make a covenant with you today, never to be reversed. Subdue my corruption. I place my neck under your sweet yoke in all things, and cheerfully submit my heart to whatever you want to do to me, or with me.

Now I give you praise, Father, for devising this salvation, and for giving it to the Son to accomplish.

I give you praise, Jesus, who paid such a dear price, and through whom I have access to the Father, in whom I am reconciled and united with God. I am no longer an enemy or a stranger.

William Guthrie (1620–1665) was a pastor in the Scottish Covenanter movement, which played a key role in the history of Scotland, Ireland, England, and eventually the American colonies. The eldest of five sons, Guthrie gave away his inheritance so he could enter pastoral ministry unencumbered. He is best known for writing The Christian’s Great Interest, a classic work on the assurance of faith.

O LORD, DRAW PEOPLE TO CHRIST!

For those who do not know you yet, Lord, grab on to them now, and do your work. Take them by the heart, overcome them, and persuade them, until they say, “You have won. You are stronger than I.”

Lord, did you not make me a fisher of men? I have worked all this time and caught nothing. Have I spent my strength for nothing?

I will cast my net one more time. Lord Jesus, stand on the shore and show me how and where to spread my net. Give me the words to enclose the souls I seek, that they will have no way out.

Now, Lord, for a multitude of souls. Now for a full portion.
Lord God, remember me, I pray, and strengthen me, O God. Amen.

— Joseph Alleine (1634–1668) faced official persecution during his years of ministry, yet never wavered from his preaching. Sometimes traveling with the grandfather of John and Charles Wesley, he was fined and imprisoned several times for refusing to adhere to the Act of Uniformity of 1662, which prescribed officially sanctioned church rites and ceremonies. He and his wife, Theodosia, worked together tirelessly in neighborhood evangelism and discipleship, and he is best known for his passionate call to repentance in An Alarm to the Unconverted Sinners, recently published under a new title, A Sure Guide to Heaven.
