Hi Men:
I pray this week that you have acknowledged the innumerable blessings you have “in” Him. At first blush some of you might say, like what? How about being able to blink to keep you eyes from drying out for starters or how about taking your next breath? Now you take it from there…….
We have so much to be thankful for! We have a wonderful and sovereign Master that takes such good care of us. I love what Paul says in Romans 1:1, “Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God.” When we willingly become slaves of God, an amazing thing happens: we are set free from the bondage of sin. Then sanctification leading to eternal life is the end result (Romans 6:22). It doesn’t get any better than that! Remember, we only serve one Master (Matt 6:24).
One more thought……. Do we correctly prioritize our love and worship of Jesus exponentially over everything else? (1) How about our investments or possessions? (2) How about the state of our country or breaking news here and around the world? (3) How about sports, social media or our obsession with our avocation, health and fitness? (4) How about where we’re going to eat, live, our next vacation or next big project? (5) Lastly, how about our wife, kids, grandkids, etc. Note: Many Christian make idols out of their families. As you all know, Jesus said,
“If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple.” Luke 14:26
Jesus makes it very clear that He will allow NO competition! By the way, I have been corrected many times on the word HATE….. people emphatically tell me it means to “love less.” Not true! The Greek word is miseō. It means: to hate, pursue with hatred, detest. Tell your friends to stop massaging the Bible because these verses make them uncomfortable. It’s verses like this that give us a “Fear of the Lord” and free us from the fear and bondage of this temporal world. QUESTION : How much time are you giving to those (5) areas I mentioned above vs. time meditating on and pleasing the One that saved you to spend eternity with Him? Remember, we are Christ’s Bride in eternity…… not our earthly wife! Yet, you better be loving your earthly wife like Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her (Eph 5:25). Now are you feeling the “tension” of the Bible?
MILKY WAY
I want to thank one of the brothers in Arizona for passing along the greatest astrophotography of the Milky for 2022. The photo above is quite stunning. I wonder how long Uroš Fink, the astro photographer, had to wait for that shot. Even if he used filters and time-lapse, it’s still jaw-dropping. A quick refresher: Our Milky Way Galaxy hosts from 100 – 400+ billion stars (source) but you can only see 0.0000025% of them when you look up. If you assign (1) planet to each star, you have the same estimate for planets. Of course when the James Webb Space Telescope starts it mission, these numbers will all change; meaning increase. The diameter of the Milky Way is about 100 million light years across.
What is KURZGESAGT? My son John sent me this YouTube video. Kurzgesagt is an animation and design studio. I found it fascinating because it keeps things so simple using a flat design style. The creators discuss a variety of subjects, including scientific and technological issues. They appear to do a pretty solid job at fact-checking. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see His invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God (Romans 1:20). And…….. on That Day …. “ EVERY knee will bow… and EVERY tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!”
