The “Water Bear” that Refuses to Die
Hi Men:
I pray you had some quiet time with the Lord this week. My quiet time is late at night and lately I have again been reflecting on this familiar verse:
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. Romans 1:20
As I reflected on that verse, I flashed back to a moment almost 15 years ago. A mentor of mine, Lee Yih, called and asked if I would meet a young man visiting from Shanghai, China, a university student studying to be an attorney. Lee would occasionally connect me with people passing through Vegas, and those meetings were “always” amazing. I picked him up at his hotel and treated him to the buffet at the Bellagio. After we sat down, I asked him to share his testimony……
What he then told me took my breath away. Without any Christian background, without ever hearing the gospel, and without any interaction with believers, he said he had been walking through a park in Shanghai, taking in the beauty of the plants, the flowers, the fragrances, the sounds of the birds. Then, in a moment he could hardly describe, the reality of God became unmistakably clear. In that same moment, the Spirit of God made him alive in Christ. No preacher. No Bible. Just creation, and the God who made it.
As he told me that story, I quietly wept at the table, overwhelmed that God, in His grace and mercy, would reach down and draw that young man into His kingdom. That kind of account was a first for me – but I guess no different than Jesus appearing in dreams throughout the Middle East, still drawing men and women to Himself — sometimes even in a botanical park in Shanghai.

Tardigrades or Water Bears – Too Tough for Evolution
Ok, I had never hear of this guy until I was reading in my Creation magazine. What in the world!! It is very tiny, only 1/25th of an inch. You would think, by blowing on it, it would turn to mush. But no……
Water Bears are the toughest animals on earth
Here are just a few facts:
- They can survive temperatures as low as -450°F and as high as 300°F+
- They can survive the vacuum of outer space… no oxygen, no pressure
- They can withstand radiation levels 1,000 times greater than what would kill a human
- They can dry out completely, lose almost all their water, and enter a suspended state. Then come back to life years later
- They can survive being crushed under extreme pressure deeper than the ocean floor – The Mariana Trench is 36,000′ deep!
- When conditions get harsh, they produce special proteins that protect and repair their DNA
When you press the question: How did this come about? There is no real answer. Evolution only works step-by-step for immediate survival; it cannot design a creature in advance for extreme environments it has never encountered. Yet the tardigrade is equipped for all of them. Even its DNA-protection system would be useless until fully formed, something natural selection would actually work against!
In other words… this doesn’t fit the evolutionary model.

Note: If someone wants to debate evolution vs. creation, ask them —“Are you teachable?” Our goal isn’t to win arguments… it’s to seek and save the lost.

IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD
Men, I know…. I know, I can get too long-winded on these encounters, so I’ll “try” to keep this short. Last week I mentioned I’d tell you about a couple conversations I had, one at the doctor’s office and one at Sam’s Club.
I opened both the same way: “Did you get your 10 Commandments Coin?” They always look surprised, and then I pull one out and say, “These are really cool, 10 Commandments on one side, the gospel on the other. Would you like one?” They always say yes. Then I’ll add, “By the way, I have a few other things I’d love to give you,” and that opens the door.
At the doctor’s office, the nurse, Paulette, taking my BP, got very emotional as I was explaining things. She’s a believer, but said, “This is exactly what my son in Chicago needs.” I told her we could pray for him right there, and she was deeply moved. We had a tender conversation.
Then at Sam’s Club, a young gal brought out the cart with 20 bags of rock salt and insisted in helping me load them in my truck. Same approach. She said she was raised Catholic, but when I asked if she really understood the gospel, she said no. That opened the door, and she wanted everything I had. She of course got a healthy tip 🤠
