Pistol Star near the center of the Milky Way

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
(Philippians 4:6-7)

Hi Men:

I pray you have been reflecting on the goodness of the Lord this week.  As I have been looking at Jupiter, Saturn and Mars this month from my backyard, I flashed on the “Pistol Star.”  Other than a few guys years ago, I haven’t shared anything about it since.   With everyone stocking up on pistols these days, I thought it was appropriate (just kidding).  The Pistol Star is located in the Sagittarius Constellation – “The Archer”.  It’s about 27,000 light-years from Earth and sits about dead center in our Milky Way Galaxy (note: the Milky Way is about 100,000 light-years across).  Let me just give you a couple amazing facts about the Pistol Star:

  • It’s big enough to fill the Earth’s orbit around the Sun and it’s the brightest star in our galaxy, although it’s behind a huge star cloud and can only be seen through an infrared telescope.
  • Are you ready for this?…. It unleashes 10 million times the power of our Sun – more energy in 6 seconds than our Sun produces in one year!

Why did I bring this up?  Possibly we need to get our mind off the temporal; stop looking horizontal at all the “temporary” issues.  We need to again start looking up; an eternal gaze.  I included those 2 verses above from Philippians on purpose.  If you are anxious, nervous or worried, about anything, take those Biblical truths to heart.  God spoke the Pistol Star into existence so He is totally capable of handling any issues we are now facing.  How should we view our problems in relation to the incomprehensible power of His creation?  Let me end this section with this great “gut-punch” verse from Jeremiah:

“For My people are foolish, they know Me not; they are stupid children and have no understanding. They are shrewd to do evil, but to do good they do not know.” (Jer 4:22)

Let’s get to know Him men.  And how do we get to know Him?  You know…….. open that Book that has been printed more than any book in the history of the world.

Trusting only in Him,
Dan

“Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise
Thou mine inheritance, now and always…”
(From an 8th Century Irish Hymn, BE THOU MY VISION)

Our theme for Zion is Finishing Well.  Here is another great truth by the Apostle Paul, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.”  (2 Timothy 4:7-8).  Do we love His appearing?   Find out more at Zion Boot Camp.

Check-Mated by God & Believing What You Want – Red Book Day 294-5
“Unless a person admits he has a need, he sees no compelling reason to surrender his life to Christ.”

Christianity is a “religion of rescue.”  If life is going good for you, do you really need God?

Audio Teaching of the Week:

Twin Truths: God’s Sovereignty and Man’s Responsibility – By John MacArthur – 49 Minutes

There is so much confusion today within the church concerning this subject.  This is an excellent message.

Twin Truths: God’s Sovereignty and Man’s Responsibility

There Must Be God

The Brain:  Of course there are terabytes of information dedicated to the complexity of the brain.  Let me give you just one fact.  A piece of brain tissue the size of a grain of sand contains 100,000 neurons and 1 billions synapses, all “talking” to one another.

The Archerfish:  Some of you may know about the Archerfish.  It can shoot a jet of water out of it’s mouth and knock a bug or lizard off a low hanging branch so it can eat them.  The Archerfish is only 6 inches long, but can shoot this jet over 6 feet.  This is the only fish known to do this.  When it shoots the jet of water, it has to compensate for gravity and refraction (Refraction:  The Archerfish can account for the refraction property of the water surface and still aim accurately to hit its meal).  What are the odds of an Archerfish’s brain learning this over many generations without starving to death?  Let your evolution buddies know that their theory doesn’t work with the Archerfish.

I was visiting with one of our dear brothers today and he mentioned the quote below.  That quote is so true today.  We are seeing literally a “mass” of men leading lives of “quiet desperation.”  Whether it be socio-economic, political, marriage, children, health, financial, or a myriad of other issues, at the end of the day there is only one solution:  Jesus Christ!  Steps To Peace With God
