LAST CALL FOR ZION
Registration closes November 12
“The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many
witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also”
2 Tim 2:2
Hi Men,
Good news! We still have room at Zion Boot Camp, and we’ve been able to extend registration through Thursday, November 12.
I’ve had the privilege of attending all 16 Zion Boot Camps. One thing I’ve noticed in talking with men over the years is how easily we can lose sight of the big picture. Work takes a lot out of us. Our wives, kids, and grandkids need our time and attention. And then there’s everything going on in the world and right here at home after the elections. I can get caught up in all of it, too. Before I know it, I’ve spent more time thinking about what’s going on around me than about what Jesus is doing in me.
The man who discipled me once said something that has stuck with me:
“Most anger that you feel inside of you is against God as you take issue with how He’s running the universe.”
That’s a hard thing to hear. But when I think about some of the things I get worked up over, I have to ask myself, Am I taking issue with how the Lord is running things? Later in this letter I’ve included a 39-minute teaching, Why Men Don’t Finish Well. I’d encourage you to give it a listen.
Men, I’d ask you to pray about coming to Zion. When I look back at what has most shaped my walk with Christ, three things come to mind: studying God’s Word, being discipled by men who poured their lives into mine, and going to conferences like Zion. I’ve not only learned a great deal from the teaching, but how to apply it in my daily walk. And some of the men I first sat down with at these gatherings are still dear brothers today. A Blessing!
That’s one reason I wanted to put that picture at the top. That’s Lee Yih with the cup of coffee, standing next to our brother Gene Wong. Lee was our first teacher and the one who gave Zion Boot Camp its name. In the days ahead, I will once again share a few comments about he and his wife’s amazing ministry in China. Lee & Gene have been friends for many years. That photo was taken at Zion in 2012. Fourteen years ago! I look at it and think about how much the Lord has given me through friendships like theirs.
If you’ve been thinking about coming, but haven’t made the decision, there’s still room. We would love to see you there. In all 16 years, I’ve NEVER heard a man say he regretted taking that weekend away from work and family to come to Zion. Register today!

RUNAWAY BLACK HOLE
Yikes! What is this?
My son sent me a short video about something I had no idea even existed: a runaway black hole! What caught my attention was what astronomers saw in its wake: a long trail of gas and young blue stars. A black hole with a star nursery behind it? I had to take a closer look.
- 200,000 light-years from end to end. That’s the length of the narrow trail Hubble picked up, roughly twice the width of our Milky Way. Even light would take about 200,000 years to travel from one end to the other!
- More than 2 million miles an hour. Webb measured a sharp change in the speed of gas at the tip of the trail. The discovery team found that it fits a bow shock, like the wave in front of a boat, and estimated that the black hole driving it would be moving at about 2.1 million mph and have at least the mass of 10 million suns!
Some astronomers think the streak could be a thin galaxy seen edge-on. The trail is there for us to see. Astronomers and astrophysicists continue to be baffled.
Men, I thought you’d enjoy seeing what got me started on this.

What an amazing God we have, who made the heavens!
May the good Lord pour His abundant grace upon you!

Gal 2:20
A couple verses to reflect on:
“But the worries of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.” Mark 4:19
Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”
Matt 9:37-38
DO YOU WORRY? ARE YOU A WORKER?
Men, if my bank account makes me feel like I don’t need God, am I any closer than that camel to getting through the eye of the needle? And if a brother has the guts to tell me the truth, will I listen, or make him wish he’d kept his mouth shut?

Why Men Don’t Finish Well
Walt Henrichsen | 2005 Glen Eyrie Men’s Conference | 39 minutes
Men, in just 39 minutes, Walt addresses 6 very hard questions about how we’re running the race of faith. Here’s a glimpse of this powerful message.
- Refusing to trust God to meet our needs. (Matthew 6:33)
Do I trust Jesus enough to seek His kingdom first, even if that means living on less than I’d choose? - Failing to deal with sin. (Hebrews 1:9)
What sin have I made peace with that I ought to be fighting? - Lacking an eternal hope. (Hebrews 11:1)
If a man followed me around and watched what I was willing to risk, would he see that my hope is in God’s promises? - Using people to do God’s work. (Mark 10:42–45)
Even a godly goal can become an excuse to use the very people Christ calls me to serve. - Growing weary of doing good. (Galatians 6:9)
When I’m tired of doing what’s right and nobody seems to notice, do I remember that I’m playing to an Audience of One? - Failing to fear God. (Matthew 10:28)
Which of God’s commands have I turned into suggestions because obeying them would cost me something?
I love how he ended his talk:
Going back to C.S. Lewis in the Chronicles of Narnia, the children asked concerning Aslan the lion, is he safe? Remember the answer? He’s good, but he’s not safe. No, he’s not safe at all. And God is a lion.
Listen to Walt Talk About Why Men Don’t Finish Well (39 Mins)

Men:
I ran across this quote by Spurgeon referencing Romans 12:1. It stopped me in my tracks!
“If by excessive labor we die before reaching the average age of man, worn out in the Master’s service, then glory be to God. We shall have so much less of earth and so much more of heaven. It is our duty and our privilege to exhaust our lives for Jesus. We are not to be living specimens of men in fine preservation, but living sacrifices whose lot is to be consumed.”
Charles Spurgeon
“Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.”
Romans 12:1
Does this type of worship define you?

Check out this short 15 second video of a guy hiking at Angel’s Landing at Zion… Yikes!
By the way, if you want to hear some interesting history about Zion National Park and the development of the Angel’s Landing trail, This Was Quite Good. (YouTube 22 Min)
Just for Fun!
Andy Fetsis sent me a photo of the Pima College group having S’mores after dinner and Bible study at his home last night.

How many young people do you have in your life that you’re spending time with?

Even though we didn’t have many trick or treaters in our neighborhood, handing these Halloween Tracts with the Gospel on the back was so fun. One of the dad’s wanted a whole stack so he could also give them out…….. that was cool!!
