ACCIDENT … OR … DESIGN?

A scientists journey from evolution… to undeniable design

“I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
Psalm 139:14

Hi Men:
I pray you carved out time this week to exalt the name of Jesus and to consciously rest “in” Him throughout your day.

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about a verse 8 in Revelation 21…. one that should give us all pause. It’s been weighing on me because it’s God’s Word and do I take it seriously?

But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” Revelation 21:8

Let’s breakdown the words:

Cowardly — those shrinking back standing for Christ under pressure or persecution
Unbelieving — those who refuse to trust in God and reject the truth of the Gospel
Abominable — those given over to detestable, morally corrupt practices
Murderers — those who take life (including hatred in the heart; cf. Matt. 5:21–22)
Sexually immoral — those who practice sexual sin outside God’s design, even lust
Sorcerers — those involved in occult practices or spiritual deception apart from God
Idolaters — those who put anything above God in their lives. How about our children?
Liars — those who practice deception, dishonesty & false witness. Exaggerations?

Of course, the lake of fire and the second death are “eternal separation” from God

Question:
When you reflect on Rev 21:8, does it make your fear the Lord? After all,
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Psalm 111:10), and again, “How blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in His commandments” (Psalm 112:1).

Unfortunately we don’t hear much about fearing God anymore, it’s all about His love. We don’t reject verses like Rev 21:8, we just don’t take it seriously.

Being a guy that loves science, I could totally relate to Dr, Wayne Frair. Let me tell you about him – a man trained and educated to believe all of this was an accident. This is just a summary of what you can read at the bottom.

Wayne Frair (1926-2015) was educated in evolution at the university level. Like most students, he didn’t question it, it was presented as settled science, the only reasonable explanation for life. But the deeper he went… the more things didn’t add up.

As soon as it became known that Frair was both a Christian and willing to question evolution, the reaction was immediate and aggressive. What should have been a scientific discussion turned into personal attacks and professional sabotage, costing him his future in that field. This was in the 1950’s and it’s exponentially worse today! By the way, the university destroyed his records!

He began to notice something most people never stop to consider: the confidence in evolution was far greater than the actual evidence supporting it. Instead of clear answers, he found assumptions. Instead of observable proof, he found explanations built on speculation. And the more closely he studied living systems, the harder it became to believe they were the result of blind, random processes.

What he saw wasn’t chaos — it was coordination, precision, interdependence… systems working together in ways that simply don’t come from accidents.

At some point, the question became unavoidable: Is this really the product of chance… or is this design?

Frair didn’t walk away from evolution because of religion. He walked away because it didn’t hold up under scrutiny. And what replaced it wasn’t blind faith — it was the realization that both Scripture and science were pointing in the same direction.

“In six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth…” Exodus 20:11

The more he studied life, the clearer it became: creation doesn’t contradict God’s Word. It confirms it!

“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.”
(Romans 1:20)

Since I went a little long, I’ll circle back next week on couple conversations I had at a doctor’s office and another one at Sam’s Club.

Until then…… Let us all exalt the name of Jesus,
Dan
(Gal 2:20)

“Certainly His kingdom can never be realized in my life until my own selfish kingdom is deposed. It is when I resign, when I am no longer king of my domain, that Jesus Christ will be King of my life.”

A.W. Tozer

Men: We look around the world today and people are doing what is right in their own eyes (Judges 21:25, pp)….. which creates chaos and destruction.

We wonder how people can be so rebellious … but God already gave the diagnosis: They choose to ignore Him. And by doing so… are STUPID PEOPLE

What John Wesley, Methodist founder, say about Islam?

“Ever since the religion of Islam appeared in the world, the espousers of it have been as wolves and tigers to all other nations, rending and tearing all that fell into their merciless paws, and grinding them with their iron teeth. Many countries which were once as the garden of God are now a desolate wilderness; so many once numerous and powerful nations are vanished from the earth. Such was, and is to this day, the rage, the fury, the revenge of these destroyers of mankind.”
— John Wesley

THE EXCHANGED LIFE
John 15:1ff

Men… most of us can to relate to what Hudson Taylor wrote in this article. Below are a couple quotes from a letter he wrote to his sister when he was 37 YEARS OLD!

“I strove, prayed, fasted… but gained no strength against sin.”

Hudson Taylor—one of the greatest missionaries who ever lived—hit a breaking point.
He said:

“I hated my sin… and yet I gained no strength against it.”

Then came the breakthrough that changed everything:

“Not by striving after faith,
but by resting on the Faithful One.”

That last one should get our attention!! If read thoughtfully and carefully, it will take you no more than 8-10 minutes. Read the full account here.

Dear Pastor . . . Rely on Your Congregation in Ministry

By D. A. Carson and John Woodbridge

“Why do laypeople frequently not assume their God-given roles? Often we clerics are to blame……. we have simply neglected to teach them about their position and functions in the church as spiritual priests. We have failed to lead them to the joy of discovering what their spiritual gifts are and how to exercise them.”

Read the article here.

When laypeople are taught that they have spiritual gifts to exercise in the church, then they begin to realize how important their own contributions are to the ongoing work of Christ. Brother, your laypeople can do things you can never do.

This reminds me a lot of Lee Yih’s presentation at the Lausanne Conference in Manila, 1989. If you haven’t read it, I’d strongly encourage you to add it to your quiver.
