Friday Men’s Group 7/12/24

YIKES! WHAT IS THIS?

“I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Marvelous are Your works, and I know this very well.”
Psalm 139:14

Hi Men,
As summer is upon us, I pray all of you had time this week to reflect again on the fact that Jesus purchased us with His blood and we belong to Him. How amazing is that! And…… the best part, He resides “in” us. That should give us all jaw-dropping peace, gratitude and contentment.

This week in Las Vegas, we have had more consecutive days over 115 °F than ever. No problem, what’s a few extra degrees. After Sarah Ibrahim visited us last month [E²Vegas.org/Friday-Mens-Group-6-21-24] and shared how hot it is in Pakistan, I stopped complaining. Why? Because so few, if any, have air conditioning. By the way, check out this website that registers the “Hottest Cities in the World – Right Now.” Lately, Las Vegas and Mexicali have been battling for 1st place in our time zone 🤠.

Below was the temp @ our barn this week. Two nights ago I was in the back yard at about midnight. I pulled up our PWS and it was 103 °F. A lot of things to reflect on while sitting in a chair at midnight when it’s 103 °F. Yet, for many, 103 °F will be a walk in the park, since the lake of burning sulfur will be 239 °F (temperature when sulfur melts)

PHOTO ABOVE – YIKES

My wife accidently cut herself in the kitchen, Nothing serious, just needed it cleaned and a Band-Aid. I started thinking about how blood clots. Boy was I blown away. This is an area I have never given much thought and as I researched it, it absolutely destroys any evolutionary thinking.
So what is that thing at the top. It is an electron microscope image of a platelet.
Blood clotting, or coagulation, is a complex and miraculous process essential for survival. So when my wife cut herself, this is what happened:

Note: This is a brief summary to a “very” complex chain of events

  • Vascular Spasm: Immediately after Jane cut herself, blood vessels started to constrict to reduce blood flow, minimizing blood loss.
  • Platelet Plug Formation: Platelets, tiny cell fragments in the blood, adhere to the wound and release chemicals making nearby platelets sticky, forming a temporary “platelet plug”
  • Release of Clotting Factors: Platelets release proteins called clotting factors. This is crazy…… there are 12 clotting factors that have to be released in perfect sequence. Here are just two:

Factor I (Fibrinogen)
Factor II (Prothrombin)
and 10 more……. Some convert into critical enzymes and some into fibrin stands that “weave” through the platelet plug, creating a stable durable clot and like a good Boy Scout, they tighten the strands as it goes. How does it know how to do that?

  • Clot Removal: When Jane’s cut is sufficiently healed, the clot is no longer needed. The enzyme “plasmin” breaks down the fibrin mesh in a process called fibrinolysis, restoring normal blood flow. Whoa!!

If just one of the clotting factors is missing or defective, you have a condition called hemophilia. A person suffering from this condition can very well bleed uncontrollably.

Conclusion: If evolution is true and if this 12-step process didn’t happen in the first generation (i.e. if any one of these specific reactions failed to operate in their exact reaction and order), no creature would have survived. They all would have bled to death!

By the way, Jane’s finger stopped bleeding by some strange and random coincidence 😎 ……. and is now healing.

IN YOUR OWN BACK YARD

Our fairly new LG Dryer started squeaking (you might remember, Kevin, who installed it). It is still under warranty, so Jane called the repairman out. It was a bad bearing in the motor. The guy fixed it in short order. I was upstairs while all this was going on. Jane came up and said the guy did a great job and just left. I raced to the window and saw his truck was still in our driveway. I grabbed my stuff and some money and raced outside. He rolled down his window. Super nice guy, maybe in his late 50’s. I could tell he was ready to head to his next appointment, so I condensed my talk. When I asked him where he was on his spiritual walk, he deflected the answer by saying his son is a pastor. He accepted the (3) tracts and thanked me for the gratuity. I said he should show those tracts to his son. He smiled and drove off. Only the Lord knows tomorrow………

Memory Verse

But as for me, the nearness of God is my good;
I have made the Lord GOD my refuge,
That I may tell of all Your works.
(Psalm 73:28)

Let’s commit to everything in that powerful verse…….. and tell everyone all His works! Maybe even how blood clots!

In His Grip,
Dan
(Gal 2:20)

Men:  Check out these words from Romans 1:29-31

Wickedness, greed, evil, envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful……….

Pick one….. How about gossip? These words are not about OTHER people, they are about YOU. Do you see yourself though the lens of Romans 1:29-31?

Warnings from the Letter to the Hebrews

“Dan, don’t waste your breath. I walked the aisle year’s ago. Jesus is my Lord and Savior!”
I can’t tell you how many times I have heard something like that from guys I talk to and care about. Yet, I see NO FEAR OF THE LORD and they want to SERVE GOD ON THEIR TERMS AND NOT HIS! I see little conviction, no fruit and this statement from the opening of the documentary, “The Insanity of God” applies to them,

“90% born in the church, raised in the church, saved in the church, married and buried in the church, will NEVER share Jesus with another person”

Please take a quiet moment, your notepad and listen to Dr. Jonathan Koehler’s teaching on these difficult verses from Hebrews. Ask God for wisdom regarding the verses. Then pray for the Lord to put a few men on your heart that you can send this to…….

Van Epp Family Funeral
Today @ 2pm Eastern

My friend, Robert, introduced me to his close friend Jim Van Epp from Georgia a number of years ago. We visited with some clients to see if there might be a business opportunity. We also toured the Switch complex and had dinner at one of the Strip hotels.

Robert called me on Monday, July 1st to let me know that Ryan Van Epp, Jim’s son, died in a tragic private plane crash along with his wife, 2 boys and the wife’s father.

There are no words for this inexpressible sorrow. I heard one comment from the Headmaster of the Christian school the two young boys attended. He told the TV reporter, that at times like this, the only place you can go is to Jesus.

Please pray for all the grieving family members and those who knew the Ryan Van Epp Family. We “…..mourn with those who mourn.”

THE PARABLE OF THE MEXICAN FISHERMAN

Men:
A brother in Texas sent me this story. There are so many ways to break it apart.
——————–

An American investment banker was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked.  Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna.  The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.

The Mexican replied, “only a little while”. The American then asked why didn’t he stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican said he had enough to support his family’s immediate needs. The American then asked, “but what do you do with the rest of your time?”

The Mexican fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siestas with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine, and play guitar with my amigos.  I have a full and busy life.” The American scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat, you could buy several boats, eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing, and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually New York City, where you will run your expanding enterprise.”

The Mexican fisherman asked, “But, how long will this all take?”

To which the American replied, “15 – 20 years.”

“But what then?” Asked the Mexican.

The American laughed and said, “That’s the best part.  When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions!”

“Millions – then what?”

The American said, “Then you would retire.  Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your (grand)kids, take siestas with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos.”

WORLDLINESS

by J.C. Ryle (1816-1900)

Men: I thought this was an appropriate image, the latest $1,000,000 tract by Living Waters. Of course it has the Gospel on the reverse side.

This paragraph by J.C. Ryle really caught my attention. It’s from Matthew 6:19-21. POWERFUL & CONVICTING

Worldliness is one of the greatest of dangers that besieges men’s souls.  It is no wonder that we find our Lord speaking strongly about it.  It is an insidious, specious, plausible enemy.  It seems so harmless to seek our happiness in this world as long as we keep clear of open sins!  Yet here is a rock on which many shipwreck to all eternity.  Laying up treasure on earth causes them to forget treasure in heaven.  May we all remember this!  Where are our hearts?  What do we love best?  Are our chiefest affections on things on earth or things in heaven?  Life or death depends on the answer that we give to those questions!  If our treasure is earthly our heart will be earthly also (v. 21).  Let us watch and pray against an earthly spirit.  Open transgression of God’s law slays its thousands, but worldliness its tens of thousands.

We need to be citizens of heaven in temporary residence on earth.  Our roots are not here but there (Colossians 3:1-4)

GOSSIP

“I lay it down as a fact of life that if all men knew what others say of them, there would not be four friends in the world.”
