Friday Men’s Group 3/29/24

Billy Graham Library

The Cross is the symbol of Christianity. Why? Because at the cross JESUS PURCHASED OUR REDEMPTION and provided a righteousness which we ourselves could not earn

~~ Billy Graham

“But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our
Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me,
and I to the world.”
Galatians 6:14

NOTE: Today’s Friday letter is “CROSS CENTERED”
Take your time reading it

Men:
Blessings to you on this Good Friday……. and because it’s Good Friday, we have a lot ponder regarding the CROSS!

Currently, my wife and I are visiting our son Mark and his family in North Carolina and his brother John and family will join us later today. We will spend Easter together….. a huge blessing!
Yesterday morning we visited the Billy Graham Library just outside Charlotte. I had no idea what to expect. We took the tour and to put it mildly, I was blown away. How God used this North Carolina farm boy was beyond comprehension! I thought I knew something about Billy Graham, well, I was humbled. There were so many things to ponder, I could write for hours, but will leave you with a couple photos……

This was a huge wall with numerous famous people.
Here are just a couple I cropped

Upon exiting the library, here was another statement from
one of Billy Grahams 400+ crusades around the world

TIME TO MOVE ON…………………

Check out this paragraph by J.C. Ryle. He wrote it as he was contemplating these words of Jesus from the cross:

“Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34)

Question: After reading that paragraph by J.C. Ryle, how much real love is there in your heart for others, especially the difficult people you know?

Now for the great news! Jesus says we can be his disciples if we do these (3) things:

  1. Deny yourself
  2. Take up your cross daily
  3. Follow Him

A Good Refresher. Many of you have listened to this 11 minute message by Steven Lawson. I listen to it regularly to keep me grounded. If interested, here it is again:

IT WILL COST YOU EVERYTHING

Listen on YouTube (11 minutes)

My prayer is that none of us are ever those that Oswald Chambers refers to below. Men, with it being Good Friday today, we have been granted eternal salvation for those who believe and keep His commandments.

simply to the cross I cling..”

“Other than the return of Christ, there is no solution to the problems of life”

Men:

This is the first time I have included this devotional of Walt Henrichsen’s in my Friday Letter. Being it’s Good Friday, I think it is appropriate for all of us to think deeply on what he wrote. I can totally relate to his words. As I read it again, I’m just brought to my knees as I reflect on what Jesus did on the cross…… He paid the ultimate price and on “That Day” will have rescued us from this sin-sick world.

Spend some quiet time meditating on how we can all….. FINISH WELL

Fragility of Life – Day 89 Red Book

The purpose of these devotionals is to help you think Biblically
Solomon said, “As a man thinks, so is he”

How Should the Believer Relate to Smart Phones and Social Media? (Part 1)

“When I was a kid, one of the biggest dangers I was warned about was guns, and my parents made me take a gun safety class before being allowed to handle one. Today, our kids face a different danger: we have to decide when to give our kids smart phones or allow them on social media”

“I think smart phones are actually more dangerous than guns”

Men: As we all know, this issue is of great concern. I would encourage you to read this thought-provoking article by our brother, Scott Bangert.

Bad Fridays and Good Sundays

It’s Friday
The disciples are running
Like sheep without a shepherd
Mary’s crying
Peter is denying
But they don’t know
That Sunday’s a comin’

Paul Tripp quotes S.M. Lockridge. Read his solid article HERE

It’s Friday………. But Sunday’s Coming

Paul Tripp mentions it above, but I just had to include this great message again by S.M. Lockridge on Good Friday!

I have sent this out several times before, one of those you never get tired listening to that will impact you on this Good Friday. It was an Easter meditation by S.M. Lockridge (1913-2000), pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, a prominent African-American congregation located in San Diego from 1953 to 1993. Here is the link Sunday’s Coming  (YouTube 3.5 mins)

Well, has it?

God is in the Details

Men: You will love this 10 minute video from John 10:10 Project. It’s a jaw-dropper when you consider the God that created all this, would send His own Son to the cross FOR US! We all need to spend some time on our knees………

“If I see aright, the cross of popular evangelicalism is not the cross of the New Testament. It is, rather, a new bright ornament upon the bosom of a self-assured and carnal Christianity. The old cross slew men, the new cross entertains them. The old cross condemned; the new cross amuses. The old cross destroyed confidence in the flesh; the new cross encourages it.”

  1. W. Tozer, 1897-1963

How much time do you spend reflecting on the Cross?
