Icelandic Volcano near Grindavik

“The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life,
That one may avoid the snares of death.”
Proverbs 14:27

Hi Men:

Well, tell me, how was your week with Christ. Did you stay under His yoke and allow Him to guide your steps? Did you find rest to your souls this week? (Matt 11:28-30)

It’s been an interesting week. Like many, I have been under-the-weather, but now on the mend. Also our soft water unit went out. When that happens, my flesh calls it a “catastrophic event”😊 It’s been out for almost 2 weeks and finally got fixed yesterday. Why am I even mentioning this? We are on well and our water is so hard you can’t generate a soap bubble to save your life! I find myself complaining, then graciously God reminds me just how good I have it. All I have to do is reflect on the what those people are going through in Israel & Gaza, the Christians in Nigeria or even the people in Grindavik where the lava flow recently cut off the hot water to 20,000 people. “Lord, I am such a piece of work!” I guess 1 Thess 5:18 is optional for me…… ugh.

PHOTO ABOVE

All of us are aware of the volcanoes that are erupting on Iceland (and even one that recently erupted in South Japan). It’s wild these fissures in Iceland just open up and lava starts shooting up hundreds of feet in the air and lava starts pouring out. The town of Grindavík may soon become uninhabitable.

A Few Amazing Facts About Volcanoes

  • Most of us remember when Mount St. Helens erupted on 5/18/80 and was the most destructive in recorded US history.

It unleased the same energy as 400 million tons of TNT. 20,000 x larger than Hiroshima’s Atomic Bomb.
It also deposited 0.25 cubic miles of volcanic ash

  • Yet, Mount St. Helens was NOTHING compared to when Yellowstone blew several thousand years ago. Volcanologists have estimated it produced 480 cubic miles of ash.
  • Even Yellowstone is tiny compared to other volcanoes. On the west side of India are the Deccan Traps. When it blew it deposited layers of lava a mile thick over 200,000 square miles! NOW THAT IS HUGE!
  • By the way, did you know the Hawaiian volcanoes are taller than Mount Everest, if their heights are measured from their bases on the deep ocean floor?
  • I can only imagine the catastrophic plate tectonics during the Biblical Flood. Not only did it rain, but huge areas would have been engulfed in a fiery holocaust. With a thought, God can move the earth to suit His will.

Volcanoes are a great reminder that we are NOT in control and our best posture is to fear and trust Him always….. to be saved from His final judgement that’s headed our way!

“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.”  2 Peter 3:10

IN YOUR OWN BACK YARD (or GARAGE)

As mentioned above, I got my soft water unit fixed yesterday. I prayed and pre-planned on staying in the garage with the repairman. We had a great conversation. What a nice guy and so interesting. For the next 2+ hours, I learned all about his kids, hobbies, adventures and his growing up here in Las Vegas. After I paid the bill, I pulled out my Steps To Peace With God and the Million Dollar Gospel of John (you can see it in his pocket). I also had a significant tip included. He was very respectful and listened intently as I shared my testimony. He tried to return the tip, but wanted to keep the Gospel tracts. You would think it would be the other way around…… right?
We are going to stay in touch and I have his cell number. He would be a great one to invite to Zion! This time in the garage made my whole day!!

A SALTY ENCOUNTER

Since I knew my soft water unit was going to need more salt, I headed off to Home Depot. The young man in the photo is Edward and he had the best attitude as he loaded 20 bags of Morton salt pellets in my truck. We chatted the whole time, I found out he went to the same high school as my son John and at the end I told him I have something for him. Not only was he surprised and grateful for the tip, but wanted to hear more about the Gospel tracts. He was raised a Catholic, so we had a brief, but profound conversation. He actually wanted to know if being “born-again” could really happen. He said he would read both tracts with an open mind. He was excited! Lord willing, I hope to see him at Home Depot again…..

WHERE TO LEAVE TRACTS

Men: Last week I mentioned how a person came to Christ by someone that left a Bible tract in a phone booth. Here are some great ideas on where to leave a tract:

THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SACRED AND THE SECULAR

Men:
Most of you are familiar with the above booklet from MIM. To order: Click Here
We are praying to put on a half day seminar on this subject. So many men today have confusion relating to the Biblical truth as to “Why Go To Work?”

This 3 minute video came out 5 years ago.
I think you will still find it spot on.
