Friday Men’s Group 9/26/25

“O Canada”
Kelowna Symposium – Sept 14-18, 2025

“Make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility consider one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”
(Philippians 2:2–4)

Hi Men:
I pray your week has been one of resting “in” Christ — anchored in His Word and His promises — even with all the uncertainty that seems to overwhelm us. He alone remains our true hope and the firm foundation we stand on.

Some of you know I just returned from Kelowna, B.C. I am so grateful for all your prayers, because I was quite nervous about speaking to this great group of professionals. Thank you. Let me give you a brief overview.

In 1991, a man by the name of Bruce Etherington, gave a bold witness for Christ at the Million Dollar Round Table in New Orleans (insurance convention) and changed the trajectory of my walk with the Lord. Two years later, through Bruce, I met Walt Henrichsen — who discipled me for the next 23 years. Fast forward to 2025: Bruce and his team thought it fitting for this insurance guy from Las Vegas to address their symposium of financial professionals about the Savior who radically changed my life. What a privilege to stand before this group — successful in their field, yet gracious enough to hear a message focused on the eternal, which is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul’s words to the Philippians remind us of the spirit that should define us all: unity, humility, and putting others first. Canada’s anthem calls for “true patriot love in all of us command,” but Christ calls us even deeper — to love others as more important than ourselves, all for His glory.

As you may have guessed, those are my amazing Canadian friends who graciously allowed me to share a part of my life with them. At Bruce Etherington’s request, they are now joining us in receiving this weekly Friday Men’s Group letter. Please join me in welcoming them!

IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD

Yesterday afternoon, Artistic Iron showed up, unexpectedly, to install railings on our back patio — something Jane and I needed for the last 40 years, but especially now, because we are not getting any younger 🤠 …And to avoid going head over heals off those cement steps. The crew (Frank, Jesús, and two others that came later) were super professional and had the job done in less than an hour. You guys know what happened next….

When they finished, I gathered them under “That Tree” in the backyard, shared my testimony, and gave them each a packet of tracts (Million Dollar Gospel of John, Steps To Peace With God — including Spanish tracts and the Million Dollar Bills with the Gospel in Spanish, since they were all Hispanic. Only one spoke English, but he translated as I explained. They were surprised, but glad to receive the message (and the tip I gave them before they departed). The Lord continues to give us opportunities to share the gospel right in your own backyard. What a blessing!

The Death of Voddie Baucham (1969 – 2025)

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. – Psalm 116:15

Men: Below is the statement from his ministry. He was 56 years old….

We are saddened to inform friends that our dear brother, Voddie Baucham, Jr., has left the land of the dying and entered the land of the living. Earlier today, after suffering an emergency medical incident, he entered into his rest and the immediate presence of the Savior whom he loved, trusted, and served since he was converted as a college student. Please pray for Bridget, their children, and grandchildren.

So many things to be praying for……..
Also, please keep out dear Canadian friends in your prayers.

Men, God put His treasure in fragile jars of clay so no one mistakes the power for ours — the glory belongs to Him alone. We are weak vessels by design, so the world sees His power — not ours.

Earthen Vessels – Day 269 Blue Book

The purpose of these devotionals is to help you think Biblically.

Our brother, Jack Prescott sent this photo with his daily devotional. I just had to include it. He took this shot as he hiked Mt. Charleston – 17.5 miles. He said it was a hard hike (for sure) and took most of the day. The peak of Mt Charleston is close to 12,000′

IS THE BIBLE RELIABLE?

Over the years I’ve run into many guys who say the Bible was written by fallible men and is full of errors. Of course, I’m interested when I hear that, so I ask if they can show me. I have yet to have anyone physically point out an error. Most are simply repeating what someone else told them.

Below is just one of 60 slides on the reliability of the Bible. This particular slide shows the bibliographical evidence. Notice the accuracy of the New Testament compared to other great historical authors. What I find most interesting is that no one ever questions the accuracy of Plato’s works — yet the Bible, which is supported by far greater evidence, is constantly under attack.

ANGER

by Ken Boa

I want to say a few more words about anger. It’s something many of us struggle with—myself included. In my own experience, I’ve noticed something odd: I sometimes treat inanimate objects as if they’re out to get me. It sounds strange, but when something goes wrong—a printer jams, a drawer sticks, traffic lights seem to conspire against me—I find myself reacting with irritation, even anger, as if those things were personal enemies. That’s a sign of something deeper going on.

That’s really happening is this: my goals are being blocked. I had a plan. I had a timeline. And when my expectations aren’t met, frustration builds. Anger often comes when I perceive that my needs are unmet, my rights are being denied, or my dignity is being attacked. And underneath that reaction is often pride—this subtle belief that the world should go the way I want it to.

But it doesn’t. And when it doesn’t, we need an antidote—something that reorients us away from ourselves. For me, that antidote has often been a single word: gratitude…
