ANTS
 All 20 Quadrillion Of Them

Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones.

If you were, then you know clearly that God Almighty established the new mayor of NYC on Tuesday (Rom 13). “…. He removes kings and sets up kings….” (Daniel 2:21)

Last week I mentioned … ants. This week I dove into several scientific and creation research articles about these tiny creatures — and I was blown away. God’s handiwork in the design, intelligence, and sheer strength of the ant is staggering. Solomon told us to “Go to the ant… consider her ways and be wise” (Proverbs 6:6). Let’s do that for a moment. There is so much out there, so let me give you a staggering glimpse!

Hold on to your chair, here we go………

1. The Numbers (Smithsonian Magazine)

  • Estimated 20 quadrillion ants — that’s 20,000,000,000,000,000.
  • Roughly 2.5 million ants per person on Earth.
  • Combined, they weigh about 12 million tons — more than all wild birds and mammals combined.
    • Equivalent to 20 Great Pyramids of Giza
    • Equal to the annual trash output of New York City

2. Super-Speed (Dracula Ant Jaws)

  • The Dracula ant’s jaws snap shut at 200 mph — faster than any other animal movement on Earth.

  • The acceleration exceeds one million G’s (1 G = Earth’s gravity). Astronauts pass out at 10 G.
  • The entire strike happens in 23 microseconds.

3. Super-Strength (Heavy-Lifting Champions)

  • An ant’s neck joint can withstand 5,000 times its body weight.
  • If scaled to human terms, that’s like running a marathon carrying a sack of potatoes without stopping.

4. Super-Smarts (Swarm Intelligence)

  • Ant colonies solve complex problems like routing and logistics — without a leader.
  • They lay pheromone trails that “vote” for the shortest route — a natural form of algorithmic optimization now copied in AI and network design.
  • Leaf-cutter ants cultivate fungus gardens underground — complete with processing teams and waste-management systems.

5. Super-Navigation (Mathematical Pathfinding)

  • Saharan desert ants perform advanced trigonometric calculations to find their way home — even over hills and valleys.
  • They calculate horizontal projections and compensate for slopes using built-in “proprioceptors” that act like gyroscopes.
  • Their tiny brains execute algorithms that would crash most human-written code if even one line were wrong.

6. Super-Memory (Amazing Ant Antics)

  • Even when scientists induced temporary amnesia (“chill-coma anesthesia”), ants could still remember direction to their nest — only forgetting distance.
  • Their brains, the size of a pinhead, integrate visual landmarks, sun compass, biological clock, and odometers into a multi-sensor guidance system.
  • Researchers call it “over-engineering” — precision and intelligence far beyond what’s needed for survival, pointing to the One who designed it all.

Halloween Million Dollar Bills

As all of you know, Halloween was last Friday. I had a blast handing these out throughout the week. Phil, a good buddy from Oklahoma was in town, and we met at Starbucks. We asked an African-American guy if he would take our photo and he was happy to do it. I gave him a million dollars and told him the gospel was on the back. He liked it. Here is the photo he took of Phil and me……..

This Tuesday, November 11, is Veterans Day. May we never take for granted the freedoms purchased through the courage and sacrifice of others. Let’s thank God for every veteran and the families who stood beside them.
