“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
— Lamentations 3:22–23

Hi Men:
How was your week? There’s a lot going on in everyone’s life….. Right? I pray you had extended time reflecting on the Person of Jesus Christ. A very familiar Psalm reminds us, “Be still, and know that I am God.” Let’s pause long enough to remember who holds the universe in His hands.

I love clouds and my daughter-in-law just happened to send me the sunrise photo above from yesterday morning. She said the cloud kept moving closer. How rare to enjoy that special moment that God orchestrated…… It reminded me of this verse from John 1:3

“All things came into being through Jesus, and apart from Jesus nothing came into being that has come into being.”

IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD

A Visit with My Orthopedic Surgeon

Some of you may remember a previous Friday Letter where I shared how I broke my foot going down a zip line in my son’s backyard in North Carolina. Thankfully, the Lord was gracious — my heel healed completely without surgery.

At my final follow-up visit with the orthopedic surgeon, he looked at the new x-rays and said I was good to go, and that I wouldn’t need to come back unless something unexpected came up. The office wasn’t busy that day, and as he started to wrap things up, I said, “Doctor, I have something for you, if you’d like to have it.”

We had already built a little rapport. He had told me he was a military brat — his dad flew Black Hawk helicopters in Desert Storm — and that he had moved around quite a bit growing up, but most his family were in Northern Utah. I told him I was raised in Wyoming, so we had some friendly common ground. Then I said,

“You and I were both born into our religions. You were born into a Mormon family, and I was born into a Catholic family. Neither of us really had a choice about that. If we were born into a Hindu family, would we be as passionate about Hinduism as Mormonism or Catholicism? But in a dark moment of my life, I heard the true gospel — and under a tree in my backyard, I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. That moment literally transformed my life. What I’ve just handed you is that gospel, along with a few other items you might enjoy looking at.”

He seemed genuinely taken aback — I imagine not many patients share something like that in an exam room. Before leaving, he held the items in his hand, looked directly at me, and said, “Thank you for these.” I replied, “You’re more than welcome. If you ever have any questions, you’ve got my phone number in your file.”

We shook hands, and he left the room. I put my shoe back on, looked up and smiled, and walked out. I was reminded once again that you never know how God might open a door, even in a doctor’s office.

Amazed by His Grace,
Dan

Men: I don’t know about you, but these devotionals give me pause. The same God who spoke the universe into existence is watching how we live in it — so are we living in a manner ready to meet Him?

🛑 DO NOT OPERATE MACHINERY WHILE READING THIS ARTICLE 🛑

Men: A dear brother from Georgia sent me this article by John Piper. I am so grateful he did. It’s not an easy read, but it’s a necessary one. Jesus’ words in Luke 14:26 are some of the most unsettling in all of Scripture:

“If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his own father and mother… he cannot be My disciple.”

This article digs deep into what Jesus meant — and what true discipleship really costs. If you’ve ever wondered whether your love for Christ outranks everything else in your life, this will challenge you in the best possible way.

Where family members would not love Jesus more than they loved their family, they would be divided from those who did love Jesus more. “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me” (Matthew 10:37)

Find some time this weekend to read this article thoughtfully. Maybe print it out and highlight the areas that impact you. Discuss it with your family and in your men’s group. Look up the word “Antinomy” and reflect how that word may be applied with this article.

Men: The following devotional by our brother LyleB is one to implant deep in your inner man. Question: “Are you investing your life in others?”

Jesus said in Matthew 28:19–20:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you.
And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

The Great Commission is not a suggestion—it is the command of our Savior.
Men, discipleship is not reserved for pastors, missionaries, or evangelists; it is the calling of every believer (see Ephesians 4:11–12).
Francis Chan once said,

“If you really want to experience God, go and make disciples.”

True intimacy with Christ is found not in comfort, but in obedience—
in pouring into the lives of others what Christ has poured into us.
Jesus Himself invested in twelve men, teaching, correcting, and walking beside them (Mark 3:14).
The Apostle Paul told Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:2:

“The things you have heard from me… entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”

Men, the gospel always moves forward through relationships.
Charles Spurgeon declared:

“Every Christian is either a missionary or an impostor.”

Making disciples is not optional—it is evidence of genuine faith.

Prayer:

“Lord, help me to obey Your Commission, not with hesitation but with boldness.
Teach me to invest my life in others, pointing them to Christ.
May I not grow content with comfort but pursue the joy of multiplying disciples for Your glory.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Nigerian Christian Genocide

I was going to put an article about the country of Benin, the “Voodoo” capital of the world located in West Africa. But then there was another brutal massacre of Christians…..

While the news cycle is filled daily with reports about Ukraine and Gaza, almost no one is talking about the Christian genocide taking place in Nigeria. Since 2009, over 125,000 Christians have been killed—slaughtered, beheaded, or burned alive for their faith. Just this year alone, 7,087 believers have been murdered—that’s 35 every single day—simply for gathering to worship Jesus.

More than 7,800 have been abducted, 19,100 churches destroyed, and 10,000 Christian schools leveled to the ground as the world turns a blind eye. These men, women, and children stand as living testimony that the cost of following Christ is still high—and the blood of the martyrs still cries out.

This happened just 3 days ago:

Please be praying for “our” brothers and sisters in Nigeria……. 🙏

Don’t Go Barefoot

In Ephesians 6:11, we are told to “put on the whole armor of God.” Many Christians today are truthful, their hearts are free from known sin, they are sure of their salvation, and they rightly handle the Word of God.
But they’re shoeless—unprepared to share the gospel.
Those who do not advance the cause of Christ are stationary soldiers; any movement toward evangelism feels too painful. If they are not seeking to save the lost, they are not taking ground for the Kingdom of God.
Paul climaxed his admonition to the Ephesians by reminding them what the battle is really for. He pleaded with them to pray for boldness, that he might reach out to the unsaved, fully aware of his moral responsibility (James 5:20).
